WHEN DID YOU START PLAYING ROLLER DERBY ?
On September 16th, 2012, the Antwerp One Love Roller Dolls welcomed me to their try outs day.
HOW DID YOU HEAR ABOUT ROLLER DERBY?
Around 2010 I saw the movie Whip it! whith Ellen Page… Cliché, right!? I started seaching the internet, looking for teams in Belgium and found two. One in Gent and one in Antwerp. As I lived in Hasselt and studied in Brussels, Antwerp & Gent were a little bit to far for me. In May 2012 a team started forming in my hometown, so I got in contact with them. Due to a lack of interest in Hasselt we only practiced once… I was hooked after that one practice, so me and my skates decided to go to the Antwerp-team to practice. A lot of 2-hours-or-more train/metro/busrides to practice and the same route home, I’m still practicing and competing with the One Love Roller Dolls. No regrets!
WHO OR WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION?
I’ve never thought about this, I like to think I do this for myself, some kind of inner motivation to want to be the best version of myself and keep looking for new challenges!
HOW ARE YOU PREPARING FOR THE ROLLER DERBY WORLD CUP?
I’m not giving away my secret to success 😉 it has something to do with eating healthy, going to practice and trying to be an active (sports) person outside of derby…
WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHER SKATERS?
Don’t skip practice and please clean your mouthguard once in a while!
HOW EXCITED ARE YOU????
I still can’t believe I’m going to the world cup and going to meet the best skaters from all over the world o_O
